Never Forget: A Tribute to September 11, 2001

Tonight, 24 years ago, the world changed in the blink of an eye.

246 people went to sleep that night in preparation for their morning flights, unaware that their journeys would end in tragedy.
2,606 went to sleep expecting to wake up for work, to continue their routines, to embrace life’s small moments.
343 firefighters went to sleep ready to answer the call of duty.
60 police officers went to sleep prepared for their morning patrols.
8 paramedics went to sleep anticipating another day of service and care.

It was a night like any other for thousands of families—fathers hugging their children, mothers whispering love, husbands kissing their wives, girlfriends and boyfriends sharing tender moments. But none of them would see past 10:00 AM on September 11, 2001. In a single, unimaginable moment, their lives, and the lives of countless others, were forever changed.

The enormity of that day cannot be measured only in numbers. It is measured in the love that went unspoken, the dreams left unfulfilled, and the lives cut tragically short. It is measured in the grief, the courage, and the resilience that followed.

And yet, in remembering them, we are reminded of the fragility and preciousness of life. Every breath we take, every hug we give, every kiss we share carries a significance that can never be repeated. Life is fleeting, unpredictable, and infinitely valuable.

So tonight, before you go to sleep in preparation for tomorrow, take a moment. Hold those you love a little closer. Tell them what they mean to you. Laugh a little louder, smile a little brighter, and never take a single second for granted.

We honor them not only in memory but in how we choose to live. In every act of kindness, every expression of love, every moment of gratitude, they are with us.

I remember
vividly those serene eyes,
shining bright,
emotion in them
Sparks my blood to rise

Thy teary eyes divine,
Speak with love and tenderness,
Eyes, a million stars in them
The picture of innocence.

 

Eyes seeking me –
glowing,
like that first dew
on the new viridescent blade of grass.

Your eyes my matinal star
Your eyes my middays sunshines,
your eyes my vespers twilight,
your eyes an oceanic depth,
your eyes my autumnal hues,
Your eyes wild jasmines
Fragrant at nights,
Like that sunflower
Gazing the afternoon sun.

You lay with the window open wide,

the curtains licking the air.

Two bodies merged as one,

entwined in limbs, sweat and wind,

bedraggled breaths roll from your throat.

 

I watch as you press your pink fleshy lips to his.

Your head dipping habitually to where his hand rests on your shoulder.

The smile spreads slowly across your face as he strokes your cheek with an outstretched forefinger.

You take it in your mouth, as though it were a stick of rock.

Sweet as honey,

as sweet as the grin that emblazons your face.

 

Enjoy it while you can my love.

For neither of you will see tomorrow.

You will both become dust, trapped in the wind,

blowing through an open window into a room of treachery

Rivers Of Love

The ocean from which my rivers of love are flowing
is the endless depth of my soul, pure and glowing.
My heart receives this flood of emotion
and beats faster with blissful elation.

I feel myself being overwhelmed with love so graceful
that my mind becomes a blank horizon, very peaceful.
I can’t see nor hear anything other than your presence,

A timeless sense of joy envelopes my heart,
